Angel House

In November of 2007 Faith In Motion started the ‘Angel House Outreach” program. This program allows Faith In Motion to reach out to women who may or may not be recovering from drugs and or alcohol. Some of the women may have domestic violence issues and need a safe haven to allow for time to rebuild their lives. Often we have women who are working with Child Protective Services to regain custody of their children and the Angel House is a safe environment to allow time for the process of court proceedings to finalize as well.

Faith In Motion partners with local landlords to secure homes to house these women and children. Through this local community partnership we have been able to place women in a ‘Christian’ Residential setting so they may maintain a clean, safe and healthy lifestyle while rebuilding their lives. Thus the  Angel House was developed as a ‘ Safe Home’  while in the  Faith In Motion ‘His Train’ voluntary program.

The Angel House is recognized by the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence as a “Safe Home”.  All staff are volunteers through Faith in Motion and are survivors of Domestic Violence .

Myths About Domestic Violence

Myth: Domestic Violence is Rare

REALITY: Every nine seconds, a woman in this country is physically abused.

REALITY: One study showed that 30% of women presenting with injuries in an Emergency Department were identified as having injuries caused by battering.

REALITY: Domestic violence accounts for over 50% of female homicides.

Why doesn’t she leave him?

Many victims of domestic violence have left their abusers. However, though women may not live with their batters, the women may be stalked at their places of employment or through their children’s school records. Many return to the abusive situation because as bad as the situation is, it may be their only viable option. Battered women are told by their batterers that if they do not return, the batter will harm or kill them, their children, or other members of the women’s families. Batterers often control all access to the family resources. Where is the battered woman to go with no cash, credit cards, or car? The Majority of women on welfare are past victims of domestic violence, as are the majority of homeless women. The woman may stay with the batterer because she fears the poverty her children would face. The more appropriate question in this situation is not ‘why doesn’t she leave?’ but rather ‘why does he batter her?’ The woman should never be blamed for the batterer’s violent actions. Rather, he needs to be held accountable by the community for his criminal behavior.

Faith In Motion’s volunteers support these women through Recovery Coaching, Peer Support Specialists  and Faith In Motion Church of Christ  Mentoring  to ensure a well rounded and safe living environment.

Faith In Motion is a 501 © 3 Charitable Organization with little or no funding. As a grass roots organization we are continually reaching out to the local community for volunteers and/or  contributions so that we may continue to develop as we strive to rebuild individuals and families lives which in turn build stronger, safer communities.
